PRPA SLIDE COMPETITIONS |
||
| PRPA slide competitions are held in the fall with a November 1 deadline.
There are three slide competitions: Everest, Travelling Salon, and Russell. The winning slides are scanned for publication in the Prairie Focus newsletter and on the PRPA website. The top 25% of all slide entries are duplicated and scanned for use in PRPA promotional slide shows. A slide show of the top 25% slides is shown at the annual June Outing. See the current PRPA Handbook for complete rules and entry forms.
Everest Club CompetitionThe Everest is a club competition with each participating PRPA member club entering 20 slides. The number of slides allowed per member varies from 2 to 5, depending on the number of PRPA members in the club. Individual members may enter up to 5 slides. A certificate and ribbon is awarded to the maker for the highest scoring slide in each category:
A Best of Show certificate and ribbon is awarded to the highest scoring slide in the competition. The Everest Trophy is awarded to the club with the highest total score for their 20 entries. The Everest competition was sponsored by Charles and Olive Everest of the Foothills Camera Club in the 1950’s. Traveling Salon Slide CompetitionThe Travelling Salon is an individual competition with each PRPA member eligible to enter 1 slide. The theme is open. This competition is judged by 3 clubs with a total of 9 judges. Ribbons and certificates are awarded for First, Second, Third and Honorable Mentions. This competition was sponsored by Mabel Clark of the Edmonton Gateway Camera Club. Russell Slide Competition (Slides)The Russell competition is an individual competition with each PRPA member eligible to enter 1 pair of slides or 1 pair of digital images. There is also a digital image category for this competition – see the description in the Digital Image Competition page. The theme is a pair of opposites with a different theme selected each year. For example the 2007 theme was Tidy / Untidy and the 2008 theme was Wide / Narrow. The two photos entered do not have to be of the same subject. The two formats – slides and digital images – are judged by the same club but as separate competitions. Ribbons and certificates are awarded for First, Second, Third and Honorable Mentions in each format. This competition was sponsored by Mona Russell of Calgary in 1958 (slides) and Curtiss Lund in 2008 (digital images). |
