PRPA Competitions

PRPA competitions are open to paid-up members of PRPA as of the closing date of the competition.

There are competitions in three formats: slides, prints, and digital images.

Photographs in all print and digital image competitions may be post-processed using basic digital techniques such as cropping, resizing, adjusting color and contrast, dust removal, and removing minor elements of the picture.

Judging is done by members of the PRPA member clubs. Each club is assigned one or more competitions to judge during the year.

Slides and prints are mailed or hand delivered at the Fall and Spring Board meetings. Digital images are e-mailed to the judging club contacts.

Each entry is scored between a minimum of 3 and maximum of 10 considering: interpretation and composition (3), technical skill (3), and impact (4). Half points may be awarded. Judges are encouraged to write comments to provide feedback to the entrants.

All competition awards shall be ribbons and certificates with the exception of keeper trophies for the winning club in the Everest and Gerry Fish Competitions. Ties are broken by the judges. The awarding of Honorable Mentions is at the discretion of the judges.

The results of all competitions held throughout the year are announced at the Awards Banquet during the June Outing and are published in the Summer issue of the Prairie Focus newsletter.

The maker retains all rights to the entries but PRPA reserves the right to use them for club purposes.
